Most people will be impacted by cancer at some point in their lives – either themselves or their loved ones. When they receive that news, they will want and need access to cutting-edge treatment with excellent patient care.
The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust has been providing care to people with cancer and their families across Cheshire, Merseyside and beyond since the 1950s. Now its services span a network of 18 operating sites across the region, with 1,686 specialist staff providing specialist cancer care to over 2.4m people living across the region.
The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre is one of the largest NHS providers of non-surgical cancer treatment, including pioneering chemotherapy, immunotherapy, bone marrow transplant, gene therapy and radiotherapy. Services also include diagnostics and imaging, outpatients, day case treatments, a Teenage & Young Adult Unit, clinical therapies, and a wide range of cancer information and support.
The difference made by charity support to this work is remarkable. As the only charity dedicated to supporting patients and research at Clatterbridge, The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity enables a level of care that would be impossible to achieve through NHS funding alone.
Through the generosity of its supporters, the Charity funds life-saving research, invests in leading technology, enhances the patient environment and enables innovations in care that are life-changing to those who need it, supporting over 33,000 individual patients each year and helping to shape cancer care in the region.
The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity is now at a significant point in its history, and over the next few years it aims to double its funding for cancer treatment and care at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. Becoming an independent charity with its own Board of Trustees will help them achieve this.
This significant time for the Charity provides a unique opportunity to recruit a diverse and dynamic Board of Trustees and Chair. They first seek to recruit the new Chair, who will provide guidance and support to the senior management team and leadership and direction to the new Board of Trustees. The new Chair will share and support the values and mission of both the Charity and the hospital, and with a dynamic approach, bring sharp commercial acumen and ability to serve as an inspiring ambassador for the Charity and The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre’s incredible work.
The Chair, who will serve a fixed three-year term, will bring considerable senior management and Board experience together with strong leadership skills and a commitment to improving cancer outcomes for the people of Merseyside and Cheshire. Joining at this early stage, they will have the opportunity to be involved in developing the structure and vision of the new Charity and Board of Trustees, ensuring good governance and bold, inspiring strategic direction.
